THE BASICS
What the BIDEN grant is.
The Bridging Immigration-Related Deficits Experienced Nationwide (BIDEN) Program is a federal funding opportunity administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance within the Department of Justice. It reimburses eligible state, local, and tribal agencies for costs tied to immigration enforcement and countering transnational crime.
A few things command staff tend to want to know up front:
- It's a $3 billion program, awarded on a rolling basis until the funds are used.
- There's no local match required and no published per-award cap.
- Technology like BLTN is funded under Category 2; the program can also fund personnel and, for some agencies, construction.
You don't have to already run an immigration-enforcement program to qualify. If your agency is ready to commit to a 287(g) partnership, the funding is built to reach you.

All deadlines Eastern Time. Grants.gov (SF-424) closes 11:59 p.m. ET; JustGrants closes 8:59 p.m. ET, note the earlier JustGrants cutoff.
Awards are made on a rolling basis until funds run out, and the NOFO notes rounds may be added. There is no required match and no fixed per-award cap; amounts are set by DOJ and the award period runs 36 to 60 months. Agencies without an HSTF letter in hand should realistically target Round 2 or 3.
